Introducing Empowering Experiences: A New Chapter in Accessibility and Inclusion

For a decade, GetAboutAble has been at the forefront of advocating for accessible travel, helping people with disabilities (PWD) navigate the world with greater ease. However, as the tourism, travel, and leisure industries evolve, so must we.

The Journey So Far

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Yasmine Gray—an avid traveller and wheelchair user—GetAboutAble began as a platform to provide valuable advice and information for travellers with disabilities. Over the years, it has grown into a trusted voice, influencing government and industry leaders on disability inclusion.

The past few years have brought unprecedented challenges to the travel sector, from bushfires and floods to the global pandemic. As businesses adapt to these changes, we recognised an opportunity to redefine our mission and expand our impact.

A New Era: Empowering Businesses for Greater Inclusion

While GetAboutAble has successfully empowered individuals, we believe we can create even greater change by working directly with industry stakeholders. Our transformation into Empowering Experiences marks a strategic shift towards providing expert accessibility consultancy services.

By partnering with businesses, accessibility professionals, and industry leaders, we aim to shape a future where inclusive tourism is not just an option but a standard. Our services are designed to help organisations create welcoming and empowering experiences for all travellers, ensuring they are ready to meet the needs of this rapidly growing market.

Why the Name Change?

The GetAboutAble brand served us well, representing the freedom and independence of accessible travel. However, as our focus shifts towards empowering businesses to enhance accessibility, our name should reflect this evolution. Empowering Experiences embodies our commitment to enabling businesses to deliver inclusive experiences that benefit both travellers and the industry.

The Meaning Behind Our New Logo

Our new identity is more than just a name change—it is a representation of our vision. Our logo tells a story of inclusion, opportunity, and empowerment:

  • The circular shape symbolises wholeness and unity, bringing together diverse perspectives.
  • The colour gradient represents the richness of human diversity.
  • The compass star reflects our mission to guide businesses towards new possibilities and inclusive innovation.

This visual transformation is a testament to our dedication to fostering a world where accessibility is a given, not an afterthought.

Our Focus Moving Forward

Our immediate priority is to establish Empowering Experiences as a leading accessibility consultancy, working with clients and strategic partners. By equipping businesses with the tools and knowledge to enhance accessibility, we ensure that inclusive travel remains at the heart of the tourism and leisure industries.

While our primary focus is on industry collaboration, we recognise the importance of accessibility information for travellers. Once we have solidified our position, we aim to reintegrate trip-planning resources to continue supporting PWD in making informed travel decisions.

Commitment to Social Impact

Throughout our journey, we have been proud to contribute to impactful projects, from developing accessibility plans for national institutions like the Australian War Memorial to crafting destination guides for cities like Bundaberg. While financial sustainability is a priority, we remain dedicated to initiatives that drive meaningful change for PWD.

We are currently refining our approach to pro bono and community-driven projects, ensuring that our resources are allocated where they can have the greatest impact.

The Same Mission, A Stronger Approach

At our core, we remain the same passionate team, united by Dr. Yasmine Gray’s vision of a more accessible world. We invite you to join us on this new and exciting journey as we work together to create truly Empowering Experiences for all.

Let’s build a future where inclusivity is not just an ideal but a reality.
