Born from a Passion for Change
Empowering Experiences was founded on the belief that accessibility is more than a necessity for individuals-it’s an opportunity to create a better world. Today, that mission has expanded, to inspire businesses and government to champion accessible and inclusive environments across every industry, and not just in the tourism industry.
Through our expertise in accessibility assessments, Disability Access and Inclusion Plans (DAIPs), training, design consultation, digital solutions, destination guides and inclusive marketing strategies, we’ve helped countless clients to unlock the potential to embrace accessibility as a catalyst for tangible and lasting impact in their communities.
Meet our team members
Dr. Yasmine Gray
Founding Director
Yasmine has a lifetime of experience as an avid traveller, both for business and leisure, with over 20 years of travel experience while living with a disability.
This personal journey has given her unique insights into the challenges faced by people with disabilities when engaging in travel and leisure activities. With extensive networks in the disabled community, Yasmine founded GetAboutAble (now Empowering Experiences) in 2015 to promote the participation of people with disabilities in travel and leisure.
Her mission is to help the tourism sector and other industries to better serve individuals with mobility, vision, hearing, and other access needs, creating a more inclusive experience for all.
After successful careers in academia and public service, Yasmine retired in 2011 and continues to pursue her passion for travel whenever possible.
Monica Villate Escobar
Managing Director
Monica is an accomplished Managing Director with over a decade of experience driving innovation and operational excellence across multiple industries, including tourism, hospitality, healthcare, agencies and more.
She has consistently delivered sustainable growth by enhancing customer experiences and strengthening market presence.
Monica excels in building high-performing teams, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering collaboration.
Her leadership focuses on profitability, adaptability, and creating environments where organisations can thrive in a dynamic business landscape. Key skills include strategic planning, team leadership, operational optimisation, and driving long-term success in competitive markets.
Chiara Scotellaro
Finance Officer
Chiara is a passionate disability advocate committed to promoting accessibility, equity, and inclusion for people with disabilities.
Drawing from personal experiences, she works to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and push for policies that support inclusivity.
Chiara also believes in the power of community engagement to create positive change, actively volunteering, attending events, and collaborating with organisations to build a more supportive society.
With a background in business development and partnerships, project management, and finance, Chiara brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her advocacy, creating practical solutions to improve the lives of those in the disability community.
Macinley Butson
Virtual Assistant & Communications Officer
Macinley Butson is an internationally recognised inventor and STEM advocate, dedicated to creating innovative solutions for cancer treatment, water sanitation, and renewable energy. As co-founder of Passionately Curious, they champion equal access to STEM education, inspiring diverse future innovators.
Macinley made history as the first Australian to win Translational Medicine at the International Science and Engineering Fair and received the Stockholm Junior Water Prize from Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. Honoured as NSW Young Australian of the Year (2018), they’ve been recognised by InStyle, Marie Claire, and more.
With collaborations across YouTube, Lenovo, and Samsung, Macinley now brings their expertise to Empowering Experiences, driving innovation, accessibility, and inclusion.
